- On 26th January, 1950 Indian Constitution came into effecy. So, India became a democratic country on this day.
- The Constitution of India was officially adooted on this day. Dr. Bheem Rao Ambedkar gave the main contribution in our Constitution. He is also known as Chief Architect of the Constitution of India.
- Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India took his oath on this day.
- Danish Prime Minister also attended the Republic Day at Chennai, Madras at that time.

Short History Of Republic Day 26 January
India achieved independence on 15 August 1947. There were a lotnof movements led by Mahatma Gandhi against the British. The independence was set up with the Indian Independence Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo 6 c 30). Thus was an Act of Parliament of the United Kingdom. Due to this, British India was divided into two new countries. Both of the states were independent, namely: India and Pakistan. But even after Independence, India did not had its own constitution. On 28th August, 1947, a committee was appointed to frame the constitution of India. Dr.Bheem Rao Ambedkar was the chairman of this committee. The committee drafted the constitution and submitted to the assembly on 4th November, 1947. This constitution came into force from 26 January 1950. This day is celebrated as The Republic Day.
Republic Day, commonly known as Gantantra Diwas is a National event. All people from India celebrate it and show their respect to the nation. The main event happens at New Delhi. The Prime Minister hoists the Indian National Flag on the Red Fort. Then the Republic Parade is held. A lot of more programs are held.
